Bengali music has a wide variet of styles.There are a long tradition of religious and secular song writing in bagladesh. There are several types of musics in Bangladesh such as Folk, classical, baul, Nazrul geeti, Rabindra sangeet, Film music, Modern music and western influence, Rock music, Fusion, Instruments etc.

 Film music

 Bangladeshi film industry supported difference type of classical music and also use western orchestration. Bagladeshi film industry named as Dhallywood. It is  placed in capital of Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 1956  first Bangladeshi film name “Mukh o mukhos”was produced by Nuruzzaman , shaidul Alam and directed by abdul zabbar khan.It was written by abdul jabbar khan. It’s music by samar das. It’s release date was 3 august, in 1956. It’s running time was 99 minutes. At that time any body had not any experience about film acting. Abdul jabbar khan worked on the movie for two years. There were two songs in this film and the singers were Abdul alim and Mahbuba hasnat (Rahman) , wife of khan Ataur Rahman. Abdul Alim’s song was deterioted  and  Mahbuba  Rahman sang the other song  “ Moner Boney Dola Laage Hashio Dokhin Hawa.” M.A Gafur  had written all of the songs in this movie and music was by Samar Das. In 1955 a film studio and laboratory was established in Tejgaon.  In 1957 the Bangladesh film industry was established and developed recording, processing and printing. The first film , Asiya ( The life of avillage girl) and it’s director was Fateh Lohani.  The film was about rural life.  The film Asiya  was awarded  the president Award in 1961. Origin of music

Baul Sah Abdul Karim and his music and songs

Sah Abdul Karim

He was a Baul musician in Bangladesh. In the year 2001, he was awarded ekushepadak for his out-standing musical achievements. Many modern singers are singing his songs with modern musical instruments. In 2000 he also achieved DrouheeKotha-Shahitayk Abdur Rouf Chowdhury award. 

Early life: Karim was born in Ujan Dhol village on February 15, 1916 in sunamganj district in sylhet division. From his  very early age he started expressing his thoughts and emotions musically and he was growing up with poverty and hardship. He was trained on spiritual and baul music Shah Ibrahim Mastan Baksh. Karim has only one son named  Shah Nur Jalal.

Works: Karim's composed songs are about 1600. These songs are organized as: Aftab Sangeet, Gano Sangeet, Kalnir Dheu, Dholmela, Bhatir Chithi and Kalnir Kooley. His ten songs have translated into English by Bangla Academy.

The recent trend of ‘modern’ versions of his  Baul songs has become popular. From the late 1990s he became widely recognized in Bangladesh and honoured  by  people. Now his contributions to Bengali Music has now been officially recognized.

HASON RAJA and his songs and music

Hason Raja

He was a mystic  philosopher, poet, music  composer and he was born at sunamganj in Bangladesh. Few years  after  his death , he gained international recognition and it was during  rabindranath  tagore’s  period. Rabindranath Tagore mentioned him at oxford university and said “We realize it through admiration and love, through hope that soars beyond the actual, beyond our own span of life into an endless time wherein we live of all men.”Hason raja wrote so many folk songs. Hason Raja Museum,
Sunamgonj

Early life –Hason was born in Bishwanath village of sunamganj on 21 December 1854.Hason's father name was Dewan Ali Raja, a direct descendant of Birendraram Singhdev (later converted from Hinduism to Muslim and renamed as Raja Babu Khan). His mother's name was  was Hurmuth Jahan Bibi and she was the last and fifth wife of Ali.

Youth life – Many schools and religious centres like mosques, temples and churches were established by hason . A vast land properties for the well-being of the people was donated by Hason. one of the biggest earthquake happened on 12 june 1897 that shake up to assam and sylhet area. This earthquake was at 8.8 richter scale.At that time many more houses were fully  damaged.

Death - on 7 December 1922 Hason died. In his name two museums were established.
